Lord, save me!

I was incredibly touched this week by this Sunday’s Gospel. It’s one that I’ve heard many times before but for some reason it really did something for me. It is the passage about Jesus walking on the water with Peter.

I find St. Peter to be wonderfully complex and I relate to his impulsiveness but also look up to his incredible boldness that I sorely lack. He has the courage to ask God Himself to order him to walk on the water at the very sight of Him. I would probably have been the person on the boat wondering what to do next and too afraid to ask what was really on my mind.

But what really amazed me about the passage this Sunday was not particularly Peter’s boldness, the miraculous walking on the water nor his sudden doubt that Jesus admonished. It was as Peter falls amidst the waves from fear and yells out (automatically) “Lord, save me!” and immediately Jesus catches him and subsequently and rightfully humbles him. It touches me that Jesus immediately catches Peter as he calls out for him.

I have begun to adopt this practice. When some sinful thought or temptation comes that is alluring me and causing me to fall amidst the waves of darkness to cry out, “Lord, save me!” and God’s devotion and immediate help is there catching me, immediately, if I have the faith to ask Him.

Remember me.

22Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, 24but the boat was already a considerable distance[a] from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.

25During the fourth watch of the night Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.

27But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

28“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

29“Come,” he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

31Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

32And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”Jesus+Walks+on+Water+Icon

Saturday Daybook!

I am thankful…

…that it’s only 66 degrees this morning. I’m wearing sweats and socks! Yes!

…that little Emmy is making her presence known right now with another set of hiccups.

I am hoping…

…that my new found physical, emotional and spiritual stamina will stay a little while longer. God blessed me with a second wind this week an my head has been a lot clearer as of late. It’s nice to feel like I can climb a proverbial mountain.

From the Kitchen…

…this week there was homemade French Onion soup and creamy pesto spaghetti. Excellent!

…chocolate chip Eggos for breakfast. My special morning treat!

Around the House…

…it’s clean! I did a deep clean of the kitchen and living room last week (my body hated me for it later) and I have SO been enoying the fruits of my efforts. Next week: washing the baby’s clothes (and mine)!

I am reading…

Close to Home by Molly Sabourin. Amazing… Her chapter on Marriage and the other on Pregnancy seriously brought me to tears. I am so thankful she took the time to write this book.

One of my favorite things…

…Emmy squirming around in my belly.

This week in pregnancy…

…I am 37 weeks. I am now officially full-term. Emily is no longer considered pre-mature and if she comes this week I’ll be able to have an out of hospital birth! It is a really relieving milestone to be at!

A picture thought to share…

baby photos 00137 weeks! Only 3 more weeks until I’m “due.”

Transfiguration

Yea, the mountain which was thick with smoke of old hath become now honorable and holy; for
that Thy feet did rest on it, O Lord, for the mystery hidden before the ages, Thy Transfiguration
before Peter, James and John hath made manifest. And they, not being able to bear the radiance
of Thy face and the splendor of Thy raiment, did fall down on their faces kneeling, and being
overcome with astonishment, wondered at the sight of Moses and Elijah conferring with Thee on
things that were to befall Thee, while a voice from the Father bore witness, saying, This is My
beloved Son in Whom I am well pleased, hear Him Who giveth to the world the Great Mercy.

Prayer for Homemakers

I’m trying really hard to settle into this role of homemaker. I’m not very good at it and being 9 months pregnant doesn’t help much either. But I found this prayer today that really helped. Thought I’d share:

Dear Lord, help me to be a true

Homemaker!
May I have the strength and the will to do the humble tasks, that make a house a fit abode for my loved ones. Clean floors, shining china, dainty curtains, clean sheets, good food, a cheery fire-may my willing hands make these things possible.
But Father, let me remember that man does not live by bread alone, that material things but make a proper setting for life’s real treasures of mind and spirit. Give me patience and understanding and kindness and humor and love in abundance, and charity for all. May the spirit of happiness, of joys and sorrows shared, of unity, of the peace that passeth understanding linger here! Help me to keep the path to Thee open and easy to find for the little ones in my keeping. And let there be laughter here.
And last, dear Lord, help me to remember the stranger without the door. May there be warmth enough on our hearth to share with him.
Is this too much for one so weak, so full of faults as I, to ask? At least it can be a goal toward which to strive, and to Thee all things are possible. Amen
Remember me.
Be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. Titus 2:3-5
